Housing Programs

The City of Auburn does not currently have funding available for affordable housing programs. In the past, however, the City received funding from the State of California to operate both a First Time Home Buyer Down Payment Assistance Program and an Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Program. Both programs are for qualifying, low-income applicants. Information about the most recent programs is provided below.

If you would like to be considered for either program should funding become available in the future, the City encourages you to complete the appropriate program interest form below. Questions about the programs can be directed to Carol Stuart at cstuart@auburn.ca.gov or by phone at 530-823-4211 ext. 122.

First Time Home Buyer Down Payment Assistance Program

The First Time Home Buyer (FTHB) Down Payment Assistance Program is designed to promote home ownership for low income, first time homebuyers. Down payment assistance is provided in the form of a zero-interest, deferred loan (second mortgage). Additional information about the program is available with the FTHB Brochure (also available in Spanish here). Please complete the FTHB Program Interest form if you are interested in the program and believe that you may qualify.

Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Program

The Owner Occupied Rehabilitation (OOR) Program is designed to help rehabilitate your home, with primary emphasis on the repair of health and safety problems. Typical repairs include electrical, plumbing, roofing, structural defects and weatherization. Down payment assistance is provided in the form of a zero-interest, deferred loan (second mortgage). Additional information about the program is available with the OOR Brochure (also available in Spanish here). Please complete the OOR Program Interest form if you are interested in the program and believe that you may qualify.
