About the Airport

In 1934, the federal government leased land from local ranchers to develop a refueling stop for planes flying mail on the Salt Lake - San Francisco Airway. In 1946, the government notified the local community that the airfield was no longer needed, and the lease for the land would not be renewed.

In 1947, a group of local officials, pilots, and interested citizens developed a plan to avoid closing the airport. By requesting public subscriptions to raise money, the group purchased the property and donated it to the City of Auburn. The airport then became Auburn Municipal Airport.
