I
have a tree on my property. Do I need a permit if I need to work around
it or remove it?
The city has a tree ordinance which applies to certain types of trees.
Contact the Community Development Department
for information regarding the ordinance and how it might apply to your
situation. You can download the ordinance at tree
ordinance and the tree permit application at
application.
Certain types of development require a permit from the Community Development Department. The type of permit required depends on the proposed activity (i.e. new construction, sign installation) and the location of the project (i.e. its zoning district).
Downloadable versions of planning permits are available in the Permits and Licenses section. For information about the permits required for a specific project, contact the customer service counter.
Note - Planning permits are distinct from building permits. For information on whether a building permit is required, contact the Building Department.
What is the fee for that permit?
A fee is charged for most planning approvals. Contact the Community Development Department for more detailed information.
What is the zoning for my property? What am I allowed to do on my property?
The permitted uses for your property are determined by the regulations established for the zoning district that the property is located within. You can call, email, or visit the Community Development Department to find out your property's zoning district. Since zoning may differ from parcel to parcel, please have the property's address and/or Assessor's Parcel Number (APN) available when you contact the department. You can find the APN on your tax bill.
What do I need to do to start my own home-based business?
In order to run a business out of your home, the City of Auburn requires that you obtain a Business License and a Home Occupation Permit. Businesses that comply with the City's home occupation requirements may be approved. Applications for a Business License and Home Occupation Permit may be obtained from the Finance Department.
In general, most fences are permitted up to 6 feet in height. Fences exceeding a height of 6 feet can be permitted, but require approval of an administrative permit. Please contact the Community Development Department for additional information about fences.
They can't do that, can they? - Questions about a violation of the City Code
Most development, property use, and/or signs are subject to regulation by the Auburn Zoning Ordinance. If you believe that a violation is occurring, contact Code Enforcement.
