The Public Works Department is responsible for many areas of city operations, including:
- Design and management of capital improvement projects
- Maintenance of city streets, streetlights, traffic signals, and storm water drainage facilities
- Wastewater collection and treatment
- Solid waste collection, recycling, and hazardous materials disposal
- Operation of a full-service transit system
- Management of city's vehicle fleet
