Transit

Auburn's transit system provides passengers with access to the City of Auburn and to Placer County, dropping passengers at various locations, including:

  • Places of employment
  • Shopping centers
  • Restaurants
  • Post offices
  • Libraries
  • Banks
  • Entertainment venues

The transit system currently has three buses powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and one fueled with gasoline.

Hours of Operation

Two buses operate on a deviated route throughout the city during the week:

  • Monday - Friday: 5:50 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

One bus operates on Saturday, with no Sunday service:

  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Auburn Transit operates Monday through Saturday, except for:

  • New Year's Day
  • President's Day
  • Easter Sunday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Fares

Single Fare

  • Adults: $0.80
  • Seniors/disabled/students: $0.60
  • Under 5: free

Pass

  • Daily: $2.00
  • 9 ride: $5.00
  • 30 ride: $15.00
  • Monthly: $18.00

Transfers are free.

Additional information:

  • Fare covers one-way trip
  • Please have exact fare, as drivers do not have change
  • Student rate is for all students under age 18
  • Transfers are given and accepted free of charge to Placer County Transit and Gold Country Stage
  • You can purchase a bus pass directly from the bus driver or at the customer service counter at City Hall
  • Buses are compliant with A.D.A requirements

Bus Routes

To board a bus, you can board at a number of scheduled stops throughout the city:

The transit system is based around the Auburn Station located on Blocker Drive near Nevada Street. The Auburn Station provides a transfer point from Auburn Transit to:

  • Placer County Transit
  • Gold Country Stage
  • Dial-a-ride services
  • Amtrak

The Auburn Station provides connections to:

  • Colfax
  • Meadow Vista
  • Nevada City
  • Grass Valley
  • Roseville
  • Sacramento (via light rail or Amtrak)
  • San Francisco Bay Area/San Jose on the Capitol Corridor Amtrak service and connections throughout the United States on Amtrak Train services

Transit Improvements

Over the past few years, the City of Auburn has taken aggressive steps toward improving service, including:

  • Improving routes
  • Increasing hours of service to include the Saturday schedule
  • Installing bus stops that provide:
    • Seating areas
    • Some protection from the weather

  • Implementing a more equitable fare structure, with an easy-to-use bus pass system
  • Developing a more consistent schedule
  • Improving coordination with Placer County Transit
  • Improving connections to Amtrak services
  • Providing air-conditioning and wheel chair accessibility on all buses
