Kevin Hanley- Vice Mayor
Kevin Hanley was elected to the City Council in 2002. He was appointed to the newly created position as Liaison to the Greater Auburn Fire Safe Council. Hanley was also appointed to represent the citizens of Auburn on the following boards and commissions:
- Auburn Chamber of Commerce Forum
- Placer County Community Service Commission
- Placer County Flood Control District Board
Hanley has been involved in crafting public policy since 1989 and currently serves as a Senior Health and Insurance Policy Consultant for Assembly Republican Legislators. As Chief Consultant to the Assembly Insurance Committee (1996), Insurance Advisor to Governor Pete Wilson (1997-98), and in his current position, Hanley helped negotiate important HMO reform laws, allowing access to specialists and second opinions.
Hanley qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer and Underway Officer of the Deck aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (1985-89). He was ranked as the "Best and Most Trusted Underway Officer of the Deck" by the Commanding Officer and was awarded the American Expeditionary Medal for his performance in the Indian Ocean during the Iran- Iraq War of 1988.
Hanley graduated cum laude in Political Economy if Industrialized Societies from the University of California Berkeley in 1981 and received his Masters in Public Policy from Claremont Graduate University School in 1985.
