Solid Waste Management & Recycling
The City of Auburn has several ways for the residents and businesses to recycle to maintain compliance with the California State Assembly Bill 939 such as:
- Convenient Drop Off Locations for Newspaper, Office Paper & Cardboard
- Residential Blue Bag Recycling Program
- Residential Green Waste Program
By reducing, reusing, recycling and buying recycled-content products every Californian can help to protect our environment and assist in keeping our states cities and countryside clean.
City of Auburn's garbage that is collected - both residential and commercial - is processed at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)where recyclable materials are recovered from the garbage, including:
- Wood/greenwaste
- Metal - ferrous/metallic items
- Plastic - many grades
- Glass - all colors
- Paper - newspaper, junk mail, phonebooks, scrap paper, office paper, paperboard and cardboard
The residual garbage that cannot be recycled is taken to the Western Regional Sanitary Landfill near Lincoln.

Business Recycling
The City of Auburn and Auburn Placer Disposal Service encourage businesses to recycle. Many local businesses and schools participate in recycling programs for cardboard, aluminum cans, glass and office paper.

Residential Recycling
The City of Auburn and Auburn Placer Disposal Service have implemented a residential recycling program called the "Blue Bag Program". Through this program APDS will deliver "blue bags" to City residents. The "blue bags" are then placed next to or into their garbage can on their designated pick up day.
The following items can be placed in the "blue bags":
- All paper, including newspaper, envelopes, paper, copy paper, magazines and junk mail
- Plastic containers - please remove the lids
- Glass containers - please remove the lids
- Aluminum and Steel/ Tin Cans

Residential Green Waste Program
Auburn Placer Disposal offers a Residential Green Waste Program. The program allows residential customers to place their green waste in a separate green toter. APDS then collects and transports the green waste to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) near Lincoln, CA. The MRF then uses the green waste to produce composting material for resale at the MRF.

Household Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is illegal to dispose of within your household garbage. HHW include: electronics, paints, household batteries and cleaners, automotive batteries and fluids. These items are generally accepted free of charge for households at theMRF's HHW Facility. There is a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per visit. For more information please call 916-543-3960. Auburn Placer Disposal Service (APDS) is the City of Auburn's franchised refuse collection hauler for residential and commercial customers. The Services APDS provides are:
