Explorers is a youth program affiliated through the Boy Scouts of America in which youth join to learn about a particular profession, in this case law enforcement. The program allows the youth to be exposed to the profession through classes, practical applications such as law enforcement scenario competitions, as well as participating in law enforcement ride-alongs.
A ride along is where the explorer rides in a car with an officer and shadows the officer throughout his or her shift and views real calls for service. It is the program’s goal to prepare the explorers to potentially enter a Police Academy and pursue a law enforcement career, but moreover it is to develop young citizens to pursue whatever endeavor they choose with integrity and professionalism.
The explorers meet bi-monthly at the police department for their training sessions.
