Auburn residents interested in filling the vacant City Council seat can apply to the City Council beginning Tuesday, April 28th.

The deadline for submittal is 5 p.m., Thursday, May 7th.  Applications not received by the deadline will not be accepted.

The term of office will be from the day of appointment and for the duration of the unexpired term of the former incumbent. The former incumbent’s term was set to expire November 3, 2020 and thereafter when his successor was elected and qualified. Therefore, the appointee will hold office until a successor is elected and qualified following the November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election

The City Council will review the applications at the May 11th City Council Meeting and will call a special session to make the final appointment shortly thereafter.

Persons interested in being appointed to the City Council vacancy must be a:

  • Auburn resident     (within City limits)
  • age 18 or older, and  
  • registered voter. 

Regular meetings of the City Council are held on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 1225 Lincoln Way. Additional meetings are held as necessary.

Councilmember compensation is $300 per month, plus participation in the city’s health benefit plan, per city resolution. 

Becoming an applicant for public office means that information that you provide will become a matter of public record immediately.  With a few exceptions, this includes any and all documents submitted to the city during the course of the application period.  As such, these documents must, by law, be available to the public for inspection and/or copying.
