Plan Submittal and Permit Issuance

To provide for additional City staff safety, and to encourage social distancing, the City of Auburn has set up a new permit processing station at City Hall. The City of Auburn Building Department, Public Works Department, Planning Department, and Transit Department will continue to receive and process applications Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays by appointment only following the protocols established below until further notice:

  1. Fill out the appropriate application for your project. Submit your application by US mail or by leaving it in one of the “drop boxes” numbered 1-5 at the new permit processing station. When submitting your application, please ensure that the information on the application is complete and that any supporting documents or plans are attached. Incomplete applications may cause delays in processing.
  2. Notify City staff via telephone or email that an application has been submitted, please include the “drop box” number in that notification. Notification shall be provided to Amy Franklin at afranklin@auburn.ca.gov or by calling 530-823-4211 x136. Notification can also be provided to Jon May at jmay@auburn.ca.gov or by calling 530-823-4211 x123.
  3. City staff will date stamp all submittals and contact the applicant via phone or email to provide a tracking number and to indicate if any fees are due. Please retain your tracking number and always reference your tracking number in any further communications with City staff.
  4. If notified of fees due, applicant can pay by leaving a check in the “drop box”, by US mail with a check, or by credit card over the phone.

  1. At permit issuance or when corrections are warranted, the applicant will be notified and the submittal will be returned via the “drop box” system, email, or US mail as applicable.
  2. Re-submittals shall be returned via the “drop box” system, email, or US mail as applicable.
  3. When permits are ready to issued, applicant can pay via check utilizing the “drop box” system, via credit card over the phone, or via check utilizing US mail as applicable.
  4. Once payment is received, applicant will be notified that the permit is ready to pick up. Staff will coordinate via phone or set an appointment for the applicant to sign for and pick up the permit using the “drop box” system, or via US mail.
