In 2017, the Auburn Police Department Investigations Unit went through several changes and was later branded in 2018 as the Auburn Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, or CID.

The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for follow-up on all felony crimes and select misdemeanor crimes, to include certain sexual battery, assault and battery, and stalking. CID also is the lead coordinator on our efforts to address crimes related to vice, human trafficking, internet crimes, and others aspects such as tobacco education and enforcement.

In addition, we now have a closer working partnership with the Placer County Probation Department. We have an assigned probation officer working with our unit and from our station multiple days per week. This allows for a great collaboration as we work to solve cases for the City of Auburn.
