Road Maintenance
Roadway Maintenance and Management
One of the City of Auburn's most valuable assets is its roadway system. In October 2022, Public Works Staff completed a 5 year Pavement Maintenance and Management Plan for Fiscal Years 2022/2023 - 2026/2027. The report can be viewed here.
In order to better organize and plan roadway projects, the City has been broken up into eight (8) Pavement Evaluation Zones. These zones will help City staff narrow down smaller areas of focus when performing road maintenance.
Street Sweeping
The City of Auburn provides scheduled street sweeping services on City of Auburn owned and maintained right-of-ways.
The City of Auburn encourages residents to assess the areas surrounding their homes and businesses, particularly with rains in the forecast and overall safety in mind. We've observed areas where improvements can be made, and we acknowledge our own responsibility in addressing these shortcomings. Together, we can enhance our community’s safety and accessibility.
Trees, shrubs, and other vegetation that extend over streets or sidewalks must be properly maintained, trimmed, and managed to ensure safe and unobstructed use for everyone.
Please ensure vegetation is cleared as follows:
- At least 1 foot away from the edge of a sidewalk
- At least 10 feet above a sidewalk
- At least 14 feet above the curb and roadway
- At least 3 feet away from road signs
Proper maintenance and pruning are crucial for:
- Allowing safe passage of taller vehicles, such as fire trucks, street sweepers, and utility trucks
- Ensuring stop signs and other traffic signs remain visible
- Reducing the risk of falling branches and fire hazards
- Preserving roadside parking where permitted
- Supporting optimized stormwater drainage
- Keeping sidewalks accessible and clear of leaves, loose gravel, and other debris that could create hazards for users
