Youth Advisory Commission
The City Auburn desires to foster involvement of young people in the work of the City and the reestablishment of a Youth Advisory Commission is an appropriate means to foster that involvement.
Auburn City Council previously established a Youth Commission in 2006 and has now reestablished that Commission in August of 2024.
The Youth Advisory Committee's purpose is to serve as an advisory body to the City Council in matters related to the needs of youth in the Auburn area and to promote youth involvement in the community.
Any resident of the greater Auburn Area who will be (i) of middle- or high school-age during the next school term following his or her appointment or (ii) involved in teaching, social services, or other activities directed at the young people of the greater Auburn area is eligible for appointment to the Commission.
The Commission shall have 13 members, including a City Council Member who shall serve as chairperson and liaison to the City Council. All members shall be appointed by the City Council and serve for a term of one year, ending on June 30th of each year. A member may be reappointed one or more times in the discretion of the City Council. It is the intent of the City Council to accomplish a diverse membership, representing schools and organizations which serve the young people of the community. Members are expected to serve as liaisons between the City and the school or youth group which they represent.
This committee will meet from 6pm-7:30pm on the 1st Thursday of every month, August -May. The commission will present to the City Council in June.
This is a volunteer position and will be subject to the Brown Act and Conflict of Interest code.
