Blue Envelope Program

About the Blue Envelope Program

The Auburn Police Department is proud to join other communities across California in supporting the Blue Envelope Program. This initiative aims to improve communication and promote greater understanding between law enforcement officers and individuals with conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, dementia, anxiety, or other cognitive or developmental challenges that may require special consideration during interactions.

The Blue Envelope Program, which has been embraced by law enforcement agencies nationwide, reflects our ongoing dedication to building trust, inclusivity, and stronger connections with the community we serve.

How the Program Works

Through the Blue Envelope Program, individuals can easily identify themselves during interactions with law enforcement or other community service providers by showing a Blue Envelope or displaying the program’s logo. These specially marked envelopes can hold important documents such as ID cards, emergency contacts, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. The program is completely voluntary, with no registration required, allowing participants to use it at their own discretion. The Auburn Police Department is committed to supporting tools like this that enhance communication and promote understanding in our community.
